Moritz Kerkmann worked for seven years alongside named and established photography masters where he learned the craft of image making and commercial creativity.

He approached closure of this chapter and entered a contemplative phase of his life where he started the process of finding a more meaningful approach to his artwork.

The focus of his work is the exploration of "the self" which can only be done in relation to a subject.

Through capturing authentic expression in portraits or the reflection of the observer in scenes that may be set or captured spontaneously.

In the end, it all is a self-portrait.

"A desire I have is to be so present in the process of creating that the distinction of leadership becomes blurred. Just like the brush leading the artist and the canvas informing the brush. Like that the process becomes an incredible satisfying dance."
